Chicago and Illinois have become synonymous with crime, as the homicide and violent crime rates have skyrocketed. Chicago just experienced its deadliest year since 1996, recording more homicides than any other city in America. But it’s not just in Chicago. The statewide crime rate exceeds the national rate and continues to increase. The position of Attorney General is a role that has become a critical juncture to repair the state’s reputation as a haven for crime and political corruption. If we’re going to create a better life for all of Illinois, then we need to change the current trajectory of this state.
Illinois needs an Attorney General who leads on crime, corruption, and protecting the rights of Illinoisans, rather than shrink from the pressure of corrupt political insiders.
Right now, Illinois families do not feel safe. Chicago just experienced its deadliest year in 25 years, recording more homicides than any other city in America. Cook County recorded over 1,000 homicides in 2021. Illinois’ statewide crime rate has outpaced the national rate. I’m running for Attorney General because our leaders need to do better. We cannot wait to fix the dire problems our state faces.
The Attorney General is the state’s top law enforcement officer and legal advisor, and is responsible for protecting the rights of every Illinoisan. The law should not be a burden to law-abiding citizens and businesses striving to succeed in a tough economy, but should be used to advocate for and protect society’s most vulnerable.
Illinois is in dire need of leaders who will stand up for the rule of law, fight political corruption on behalf of the people, and curtail the crime that seems to be getting worse with every passing day.
Our small businesses nationwide have been crushed due to the ongoing pandemic. But in Chicago, rising crime has stalled the city’s economic recovery. Illinois small businesses, particularly those owned by immigrants and minorities, are without the resources to protect themselves. As a result, businesses are moving to other states, leaving vacant properties behind. I will fight to make our state a friendly AND safe place to do business again.
The Attorney General’s Office oversees vital programs necessary to help protect our most vulnerable citizens. I will ensure that seniors do not fall victim to common fraud schemes, I will protect the rights of women in domestic and sexual assault cases, and I will make sure our children grow up in a safe environment.
